What are dental crowns?

Dental crowns are custom-made caps that fully cover the visible surface of a tooth. They protect, strengthen and restore the natural shape of the tooth, improving both chewing function and appearance.

What types of dental crowns are there?

• Monolithic zirconia crown (metal-free) – High-translucency zirconia with no internal metal structure. It avoids the gray line at the gum, offers high strength in areas under chewing pressure and looks very natural.
• IPS e.max porcelain crown (metal-free) – Excellent aesthetics for front teeth, with very natural color and translucency.
• Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown – Combines a metal base with a ceramic coating; a strong, more economical option, although less aesthetic than metal-free crowns.
• Temporary crown – Used while the final crown is being made, to maintain function and appearance.

How much does a zirconia crown cost in Lima, Peru?

Zirconia crowns made with CAD/CAM technology, in a single visit depending on the case, start from USD 520 (approx. S/ 1,820), VAT included. The final price depends on the material (zirconia, IPS e.max porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal) and on whether the tooth needs prior treatment, such as a root canal. At your first evaluation we give you a treatment plan with a fixed quote, so you know the total cost before you start.

Why do we recommend zirconia crowns?

There are more economical options, such as porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, and we offer them too. However, in most cases we recommend zirconia for three reasons:

• Durability as an investment
  Monolithic zirconia is a high-strength ceramic with no layers that can chip off. In the medium term, porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are more likely to wear or chip, which may make replacement necessary. Choosing well from the start helps you avoid paying twice.
• No gray line at the gum
  With no metal inside, zirconia avoids the dark edge that can appear over time at the neck of porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, and offers a natural look.
• Metal-free
  It is a biocompatible material that, with good hygiene and regular check-ups, supports healthy gums around the crown.
